My Story

My name is Ayshalee. I started sewing in 2022, inspired by my best friend Ulya, and I have been sewing almost every day since! My very first make was a tote bag with a Star Wars fat quarter and a plain cream pillowcase! I was hooked. I went home and dusted off my mums old sewing machine – a vintage Singer 5102. I had to buy a new control pedal for it but it still worked perfectly.

I soon moved onto sewing dresses and clothes, using patterns and self drafting. With no-one to teach me, I had to learn through practice and perseverance. I have taught myself everything I know so far, and I continue to teach myself more because the possibilities are endless!

When I moved in with my partner, he created my sewing room in the spare bedroom so that I could have my own creative space. I started a new job as an adult learning tutor delivering personal development, digital skills and sewing and garment construction courses. This is what inspired me to start Talking Threads. I want to get involved with my local community and create a fun, safe environment where people can get out of the house, meet new people and learn a new skill. I aim to share my knowledge with others and deliver easily accessible courses and workshops from my studio space in Warrington.
