FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you can’t find the answer you are looking for, please do contact me.
Absolutely not! Our workshops are designed for all abilities, including complete beginners. If you’ve never touched a sewing machine before, don’t worry — I’ll guide you through everything step by step. There’s no expectation that you already know how to thread a machine, sew a straight line or understand sewing terminology.
Workshops are held on a Saturday at Widnes Market.
Workshops are generally 2 hours, giving you plenty of time to learn, sew and hopefully finish your project.
Prices starts from £10 but vary depending on the project and materials required.
You can book online here: www.sumupbookings.com/talking-threads. If spaces are available, you can also attend without booking.
Booking is recommended so you can guarantee your space. You can also turn up on the day, but spaces are limited and if the workshop is full, unfortunately I may have to turn you away. You can book here: www.sumupbookings.com/talking-threads
I am developing a choice of different projects each week. There are options for different abilities, so you can choose something that’s right for you. Projects may include bags, cushions, accessories and other useful or fun makes.

No. I have 5 sewing machines available for you to use but they are provided on a first come first served basis. I recommend booking with me to ensure you get a machine on the day.
Not usually! Materials for your chosen project can be provided. If you’d prefer to bring your own fabric, you’re welcome to — just check with me beforehand to make sure it’s suitable for the project.
Please get in touch as soon as possible if you can no longer attend.
Afraid not, Talking Threads workshops are designed for adults. Minimum age is 16.
Absolutely. Talking Threads is all about making sewing accessible and welcoming. I’m a fully qualified teacher with experience supporting learners with a range of additional needs. If you have a particular requirement, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss how I can support you.
Wear something comfortable that you can move around in. Ensure there’s nothing dangly for health and safety reasons.
You will – And that’s completely okay! Mistakes are part of learning. We’ll unpick it, fix it and carry on. No sewing judgement here!
That’s completely normal. Sewing machines can look intimidating at first, but I’ll show you exactly what to do and stay on hand to help.
Of course! Lots of people come on their own. Workshops are a relaxed, friendly environment where you can meet other people who enjoy being creative.
Just get in touch! I’m always happy to answer questions before you book.
