Machine Maintenance Workshop
Give your sewing machine a little TLC and learn how to look after it properly.
Bring along your own sewing machine and learn the basics of regular machine maintenance, including cleaning, removing lint and fluff, and checking whether your machine requires oiling.
This is a practical, hands-on workshop where I’ll demonstrate the process and then help you carry out the maintenance on your own machine. As sewing machines vary, we’ll focus on understanding what is appropriate for your particular machine rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
You’ll also learn what to look out for and when a problem is something that needs professional servicing rather than something you should tackle yourself.
What you’ll learn:
- How to safely clean your sewing machine
- Where lint and fluff commonly build up
- How to access and clean the bobbin area and feed dogs
- How to check whether your machine needs oiling
- Where oil can and cannot be used
- How to safely remove and replace basic parts
- When your machine needs professional attention
What to bring:
- Your sewing machine
- Your machine manual, if you have it
- A screwdriver suitable for your machine
- Any specialist tools supplied with your machine
Please note: Not all sewing machines require oiling, particularly some modern machines. Please do not purchase or bring sewing machine oil unless you know that your machine requires it.
